Four years after their uncompromising debut Athletic Statics (Fidel Bastro, 2020), German noise rock force TRAINER are set to unleash their second full-length, Oh, Mandy!, in mid-2025. Oh, Mandy! is more than a follow-up – it’s a declaration of intent. Expect controlled demolition in sound form.
TRAINER bring back their signature sound: pummeling, intricate drums, stoic machine-like beats, howling guitars, filthy, fractured riffs, and vocals that swing from laid-back cool to ecstatic screams — all served without a bass guitar in sight. The result? A jagged mix of garage’n’roll, experimental noise rock, and angular No Wave chaos.

While working on the songs for this album, we had to deal
with painful personal losses. In addition, the creation of the
album took place at a time of unprecedented political
changes worldwide, which are very difficult to bear. There is
something existential about the songs, but they also
channel a lot of anger. You might hear – or even experience
physically – both when listening to the album. However, we
hope that you also might discover the ease and love these
songs contain and that they will inspire you to dance.
Mammoth is based on a picture of Gunter Sachs on his
motorbike. Variations on a Theme by Harry Pussy is based
on the song Sick Again by Harry Pussy. Mandy is inspired by
the work of Hanne Darboven. The Chinese Fiancée is
inspired by and dedicated to Rebecca Horn.
I Would Have Said “Fuck You!” is dedicated to the unique
genius Peter Brötzmann.
